Passenger dies after car flips off curvy road in Bedford County

This weekend, a 52-year-old Lynchburg man was killed in a single-car wreck in Bedford County. He was riding as a passenger in a car that was navigating a curvy portion of U.S. 501. Despite the presence of signs cautioning drivers to slow down, the driver lost control of the vehicle, sending it off the road where it overturned.

An accident like this can have serious repercussions, on the life of a victim's family. Aside from the difficult emotional aspect that a spouse or children would have to deal with after the death of a partner or parent, a family can face severe financial difficulties. In addition to funeral and burial expenses, a family may suddenly be without income they relied on to make ends meet. Fortunately, there are options when faced with a situation like this.

A wrongful death lawsuit could be appropriate when a passenger is killed in a crash. In the past we have discussed wrongful death in terms of a two-vehicle crash, but a wrongful death lawsuit can also be filed against a negligent driver who caused the death of a passenger. In addition to compensation for funeral and burial costs, a successful wrongful death lawsuit can also result in compensation for lost wages that a family may suffer after a loss like this.

Police are continuing to investigate what may have led to this tragic collision in Bedford County. Families who have lost a loved one in a crash like this, however, do not have to wait on police to file a claim. By working with an attorney, a family can find evidence on their own to show that a driver was negligent in causing a fatal accident.
