Importance of knowing traffic laws

Everyone who gets behind the wheel of a car has a responsibility of driving safely. Knowing the traffic laws regarding stopping and yielding the right of way is an important part of driving. When a driver forgets a rule or chooses to ignore it, auto accidents can occur and injuries can result.

A recent accident in Bedford County resulted in a woman being airlifted to a local hospital. The Dec. 26 accident occurred on Highway 460. A 26-year-old woman from Boones Hill was turning onto the highway. She failed to yield the right of way and was struck by an SUV.

The woman was airlifted to a local hospital. Two passengers in the SUV were also taken to a local hospital. The conditions of any of the people injured was unknown.

Authorities have not issued any citation as yet. The accident is still under investigation. Law enforcement is most likely trying to determine who was at fault for the accident. Both of the cars involved in the accident will be thoroughly inspected and the accident scene will be documented, with any evidence removed from the site for further evaluation. Police will also speak with both drivers of the vehicles, as well as any witnesses to the accident.

Once law enforcement has determined the cause of the accident, if warranted, they will issue citations. If the woman did neglect to yield, then she would be at fault for the accident. However, if that's not the case, then the other driver could be held responsible. Whoever is determined to be the injured party in this accident will have the legal right to seek compensation for property damage and medical expenses. A legal professional experienced in handling such issues can help anyone who is considering seeking financial relief.
