Virginia car accident kills one, leaves one in jail

Two cars collided just after 8 a.m. on May 25, 2015, on a Virginia roadway. The cars were both traveling east at the time of the car accident. The crash happened when one driver tried to make a left turn as another driver was attempting to pass on the left side.

Police report that a 55-year-old man driving a SUV attempted to make a left turn. At that time, a 78-year-old man tried to pass in his car. The two vehicles crashed, and the passing car overturned and landed in a ditch. The 78-year-old male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The 55-year-old male driver of the SUV was arrested and charged with DUI. He is being held at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond. He was not injured in the crash.

A car accident such as this one in Virginia can be devastating to the community and the friends and families of those who are injured or killed. This particular accident is still under investigation by the police who will announce their findings when the investigation is complete. If a driver is convicted of DUI in a car accident in which someone dies, the family who is left behind may wish to pursue a suit in civil court. Attorneys who focus on personal injury law may be able to assist those family members with a civil suit that could enable them to be reimbursed for final expenses and receive compensation to assist with estate finalization.
