Motorcycle accident kills Pennsylvania university officer

Accidents that involve motor vehicles and motorcycles often cause catastrophic injuries to the rider. Even when a rider is in protective gear, the impact of the accident can cause head trauma and internal injuries. It is important that drivers be aware of everyone who is sharing the road with them, including both two- and four-wheeled vehicles. Our Lynchburg readers will be saddened that a recentmotorcycle accident resulted in the death of a Pennsylvania police officer who was in the state to attend a special event.

The accident occurred on Aug. 29. The officer was in Culpeper, Virginia., attending the Blue Knights rally as part of the Blue Knights of Pennsylvania chapter. The Blue Knights is a group of police officers who are also motorcycle enthusiasts. The officer was riding on Madison Road when a Ford pickup pulled out in front of him. He swerved to miss the truck, lost control of the bike, and rolled several times before he was thrown from the motorcycle. He was rushed to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the pickup truck, but the accident investigation is ongoing. Investigators will want to examine the accident scene, talk to the driver of the truck and any witnesses who might have seen what happened. Once investigators are certain of a cause, then they will decide if charges should be filed.

Even if criminal charges are not filed against the driver of the truck, the officer's surviving family members could still pursue a civil action against him. He could be found liable for damages and ordered to compensate the family for medical and final expenses, as well as for pain and suffering, and loss of companionship. Anyone who finds themselves struggling with expenses after the loss of a loved one would be wise to seek the advice of a legal professional well-versed in these types of personal injury cases.
