Virginia fatal accident leads to one arrest

A fatal crash often leaves family members mourning the loss of a loved one. A fatal accident on a Virginia roadway recently left an SUV's 78-year-old passenger dead. He was not wearing a safety belt and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

Allegedly, a truck driven by a 29-year-old male crossed the center line of the road and struck the SUV head on. The driver of the SUV was airlifted to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI second offense and involuntary manslaughter, according to a Virginia State Police spokesperson.

The fatal crash happened just after 4 p.m., and the reconstruction team assisted law enforcement officials as they investigated the crash. All lanes were shut down for several hours but were opened back up to the public by 8 p.m. The names of the injured parties were not released until later that evening to give authorities time to contact the victims' immediate families.

A fatal accident such as this one can leave loved ones with unexpected financial responsibilities. Also, injured victims may incur medical bills that run into the thousands of dollars. The victims of accidents, such as this one, may want to speak with attorneys who focus their practices on personal injury law. During a consultation with a personal injury attorney, a victim or a victim's family member can learn more about the process for filing a claim with a Virginia civil court.
