Multi-vehicle crash on Virginia's roads leads to one death

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Virginia were shut down for more than seven hours last week due to a disabled vehicle on the roadway. The multi-vehicle crash was investigated by the Virginia State Police and led to charges of reckless driving for a tractor-trailer driver who is believed to have started the string of collisions. The accident happened a little before 9:30 a.m.

Thursday morning truck accident sent several students to hospital

On a Thursday morning in late January, 15 students were on a Richmond Public Schools bus when it was hit by a pickup truck following a sudden stop farther up the road. Several students were transported to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center for the treatment of their injuries. These students were on their way to school when the truck accident happened.

Trucker charged in Virginia crash that hurt 2

Following the Monday morning crash between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car on Route 340 near Stanley, police charged the 63-year-old male truck driver with reckless driving. Significant injuries resulted for two people in the car that collided with the tractor-trailer after state police reported that it pulled into traffic on Route 340 from Shuler Lane in front of a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old woman.

Large truck accidents in Virginia

Virginia drivers could potentially benefit from learning more about trends associated with motor vehicle accidents involving large trucks, as described by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. There were more than 100,000 people injured accidents associated with large trucks during 2012. More than 3,900 people died in these crashes. According to the NHTSA, there were approximately 330,000 large trucks involved in accidents that same year. Large trucks are classified as those with a gross vehicle weight rating that exceeds 10,000 pounds.

Collision with dump truck leads to fatality

A tractor-trailer driver was killed on Nov. 7 when he collided with a disabled dump truck that was blocking the highway. The accident occurred on the middle northbound lane of I-95 near mile-marker 149. The 59-year old driver of the tractor-trailer was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck received non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the hospital.

Parents and guardians often send children with other responsible adults on trips or outings. Sometimes, groups travel in cars or trucks.
