What estate planning moves should you make prior to vacation?

Estate planning is the last thing that anyone wants to think about, particularly before a vacation. However, just before the recreation season, it is important to give some thought to your estate plan. You want to be able to protect your family, regardless of what happens. This way you can worry less throughout your vacation season.

According to Huffington Post, there are essential estate planning moves that you should make.

Consider your end of life measures

If something happens to you, you need to have your estate plan in order in advance. Make sure that you have an up to date will. If you do not have a will, then you need to write one. If you already have a will, then consider updating it. You also should check your beneficiary designations.

If you have children, make sure that you name a guardian or guardians. While it is difficult to think about not being there for your children, you do need to take extra precautions. If something happens to your children, you want to make sure that they are in the hands of someone that you trust. Most parents do not want to leave this to the courts to decide.

Consider your health measures

Anything can happen. A catastrophe could result in your incapacitation. Advance directives provide you with a means to specify what medical treatments you want and which you do not want. In addition, you should have a health care power of attorney. This allows another person to make health care decisions if you cannot make them yourself.
